Microsoft quarterly profits grow, driven by commercial sector

Microsoft's enterprise products have long been used by companies across the world to power their operations. From the easy-to-use email client Exchange to the continually evolving collaborative tool SharePoint, global IT professionals have invested in Microsoft training courses at a rapid rate over the years. 

The main reason for the widespread Microsoft education is due to the fact that the company's services are becoming more popular. As more businesses opt for Microsoft solutions, the need to learn about SharePoint, Exchange and other programs has increased. 

Enterprise products fly off shelves
That trend looks like it will continue, as the tech giant recently released some extremely positive quarterly sales numbers. According to a Microsoft press release, the vendor saw sales for the second fiscal quarter exceed $24 billion. The organization's outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer credited solid growth in enterprise sales as the catalyst behind the spike in profits. 

"Our Commercial segment continues to outpace the overall market, and our Devices and Consumer segment had a great holiday quarter," Ballmer said. "The investments we are making in devices and services that deliver high-value experiences to our customers, and the work we are doing with our partners, are driving strong results and positioning us well for long-term growth."

Overall, the company's commercial department saw revenues surpass $12 billion during the most recent quarter, a 10 percent spike from the previous quarter. SQL Server increased its market share by double digits, which could indicate SQL training is becoming more highly sought-after for database administrators.

Also, Microsoft reported that its cloud-related profits more than doubled, as did sales for its Surface tablets. These advances are an indication that Microsoft's mobile solutions are becoming more popular among both consumers and businesses. 

Profits surpass estimates
The revenue growth should spread optimism at Microsoft, as well as further enhance the company's reputation for delivering useful enterprise solutions. CNN reported that the numbers were so remarkable that they exceeded profit predications based on a Thomson Reuters survey of industry analysts. 

With more companies embracing Microsoft solutions, IT professionals should consider investing in Microsoft certification courses. Doing so will make them more attractive to many organizations that rely on Microsoft technology on a daily basis. 

Working with a training partner that offers flexible course schedules is the best option. Tech professionals should research course providers to find one that offers in-house and online classes.
