Microsoft certification courses to get Windows 8.1, Server 2012 upgrades

24 August 2013

One of the reasons that Microsoft certification courses are trusted across most industries is that the software firm constantly updates its exams in order to ensure they test student skills on the latest technologies and services.

Therefore, there was little surprise when Microsoft recently announced that a number of its exams would be reworked to include information relating to Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. However, it is important for IT professionals to understand the changes, as this can help them create an examination plan if they are pursuing certifications.

According to Windows IT Pro, starting in January 2014, exams 70-410, 70-411 and 70-412 will feature new material that is designed to test proficiency with Windows Server 2012 R2. Also, both the 70-687 and 70-688 exams will be reconfigured to include questions regarding Windows 8.1, the recently updated operating system software that is compatible for mobile and desktop devices.

For professionals currently participating in Microsoft training for certifications relating to Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8, their course work will still be recognized. In fact, they should have completed the certification classes long before the January implementation date for the upgraded exams.

Microsoft reported that the company will update certification information on its online course description site as it becomes available. However, the source noted that all exam numbers will remain the same so it will be necessary for students to closely read the descriptions of each exam to determine which ones are required for particular certifications.

Value of certifications
Some industry workers often hesitate to invest in certifications. However, IT World noted that it's a great credential to highlight on a resume. The source indicated that it's a fantastic way to showcase expertise in a particular IT field, which can be extremely beneficial when applying for niche sector positions. Also, the inclusion of such credentials shows hiring managers that a candidate is a self-starter, willing to put in the time to enhance his or her skill set.

For professionals looking to obtain more certifications, investing in an online Microsoft training course is a convenient option. Many web-based classes are guaranteed to run, meaning that they will commence even if just a few individuals sign up for the course. Another perk of this learning approach is that these courses can be accessed at any location that is connected to the Internet.
